Storycraft Teacher wanted (Initially for birthday parties)

About Storycraft

Storycraft classes are creative themed classes for young children taught at the mal_Raum in Ruschlikon. Classes normally include a picture book, art or craft activity and singing. Classes can be either parent and child (1.5-4 years) or drop-off (4-10years) and are between 50 - 90 minutes. Storycraft parties are normally 2 hours long and include a story, art or craft activity, time for food and dancing. Parties are offered for children of all ages, but are mainly children aged between 2-10 years old. Currently there is only one Storycraft teacher (Mady) who is now full to capacity! Storycraft classes and parties are currently run in English, however there is also be some demand for these in German so this is open to English and/or German speakers. More information is available on the Storycraft website and Facebook page www.storycraft.chwww.facebook.com/Lemadyart

Wanted

Storycraft needs another Storycraft teacher/s. In the first instance I need extra teachers for occasional party work. Parties are done on Saturdays, Sundays and Wednesday afternoons (you do not need to be available all these days). The days would be agreed with you in advance so that you can work when it suits you. At a minimum you would need to be prepared to do one party a month, however you could probably do many more than this if you wish to. I am also open to exploring options to teach more regular Storycraft classes in the future if that is something you would like to do.

Current thinking is that Mady will continue to administer the parties, and prepare/source materials for the party activity. The new Storycraft Teacher would need to set-up, run the party on the day and tidy-up afterwards. Salary is likely to be approx 200chf per party or 400chf for two parties in a row. All art materials will be provided. (If you prefer to prepare a selection of your own craft projects for your parties this arrangement can be discussed/adapted.)

QUALITIES/EXPERIENCE

The vacancy is likely to suit an Artist or Crafter (professional or amateur) or a current/ex Teacher looking for flexible work. Teaching Storycraft is incredibly good fun, creative and very fulfilling, but it can also be hard work! You should ideally have the following qualities/experience:

  • Be a confident reader and fun storyteller

  • Be organised and able to plan well

  • Have the ability to stay calm under pressure

  • Have a familiarity with different art materials or willingness to learn

  • Be willing to spend quite a lot of time tidying/washing up!

  • Have a very good level of English

  • (Ideally) Have a basic knowledge of German

  • (Ideally) Be able to lead group singing

Application

Please send a short video to give me an impression of you including:

  • A brief 1-2 minute introduction about you

  • A 1-2 minute reading of a section of a picture book of your choice

  • A short demo of a simple art/craft project for children which relates to the story in some way. This does not have to be an original project.

Please do not worry about video quality or editing, just a very short unedited video on a phone is fine! Please send this or a dropbox link to Storycraft.ch@outlook.com and include your contact details.

Please apply by the end of September. I will contact you in early October to invite you for a chat or trial class if I think you would be suitable. If you have any queries or would like to sit in on a class please contact me via email.
